The nova rose to a maximum of 5.6 by December 13 and then faded gradually until in mid February 1994 it suffered a sharp "DQ Herculis" decline. By February 18 it was down to magnitude 11 and on February 27 it had reached magnitude 14.4. After bottoming at around magnitude 16 it started a recovery to magnitude 12.5 in May 1994 and it has stayed around that magnitude ever since.
