H. McNaught, Anglo-Australian Observatory, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 18) at R.A. = 3h02m57s.97, Decl. = -12o22'54".9 (1950.0) about 3" due east of the center of the host spiral galaxy. SN 1994af was found on an R plate taken on Nov. 27 by C. P. Cass with the U.K. Schmidt Telescope. No image appears at this position on another R plate taken on 1993 Sept. 23 or on the SERC J survey. A nearby star (about 0.5 mag fainter than SN 1994af) has position end figures 3m05s.52, 8".6. B. Schmidt, P. Challis, and R. Kirshner, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), report that a spectrogram (380-740 nm) of SN 1994af taken by P. Berlind (CfA) with the Tillinghast 1.5-m reflector (+ FAST spectrograph) on Dec. 1.25 UT shows this object to be a relatively young type-II supernova, as indicated by broad P-Cyg profiles of H-alpha and He I (587.6 nm). IAUC 6110 FN ANDROMEDAE Patrick Schmeer, Germany e-mails us to report that he has observed an outburst of FN And .0.203-m SC): 1994 Dec 2.881UT, [14.1; 5.751, 13.4. Gary Poyner has relayed observations confirming the event: Dec 05.791UT, 13.4 (Tonny Vanmunster, Landen, Belgium 0.35-m refl) 5.852UT, 13.4 (Bill Worraker, Didcot, UK, 0.26-m refl) Patrick adds that the last detected outburst was on 1994 July 12. IP PEGASI William Dillon, Missouri, Texas, USA reports an outburst of this UG star (0.28-m SC): 1994 Dec 1.196UT, [13.8; 6.163, 13.6. The outburst has been confirmed by M.Yamada, Ishikawa, Japan: 1994 Dec 6.416UT, 13.1 (0.35-m SC) Guy M Hurst
