------------------------------------------------------------------- THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 897 1994 Oct 29 18.29UT Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP,England. Telephone/FAX(0256)471074 Int:+44256471074 INTERNET: GMH at AST.STAR.RL.AC.UK or GMH at GXVG.AST.CAM.AC.UK ------------------------------------------------------------------- QY PERSEI Based on CCD imaging by Nick James, Chelmsford, England which was obtained on 1994 Oct 26.967UT, The Editor reduces the magnitude as 14.5 (based on GSC approximate values for comparisons). The star in outburst may co-incide with a very faint image on the Downes and Shara Atlas (PASP 105, No 694, [1993]) for which a photograph of the field appears on page 221. The possible candidate proposed by Hurst and James is located 19mm from the frame top and 30mm from the frame right edge and is presumably of magnitude 20-21. A slightly brighter star, located 19.5mm from top and 28.5mm from right is unlikely to be the candidate. The Editor notes that Szkody and Howell (ApJ.Suppl.78p537 [1992]) found the object to be red and not a CV. However this is on the assumption the Duerbeck candidate was correct. For the time being the object will be retained and more observations would be welcomed. Guy M Hurst
