Graeme Waddington (Oxford) has checked the 'LS' reference where the star's spectral type is given as OBce, (le) and in a supplement as OB ce, (le), h. Explanatory codes: h = Halpha emission observed. ce= continuous emission near Balmer limit le= emission lines on Blue plate The photographic magnitude is given as 11.7. It is important to establish the previous behaviour of this star and presumably photographers may well have several photographs of this area of Cas. Please e-mail positive or negative results. SUPERNOVA 1990ah IN UGC 249 C. Pollas, Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur, reports his discovery, on panchromatic film exposed on Dec. 7.77 UT, of a supernova of mag 18 in UGC 249. The supernova is located at R.A. =0h23m34s.91, Decl. = +13 22'44".3 (equinox 1950.0), or 3".4 east and 7".7 north of the galaxy's centre. There is a nearby star (mag 17) at R.A. = 0h23m36s, Decl. = +13 22'.1. IAUC 5146 SUPERNOVA 1990ai IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY C. Pollas, Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur, reports his discovery on a film exposed Nov. 26.08 UT of a supernova (mag about 19.5) located at R.A. = 7h17m11s.29, Decl. = +21 59'57".3 (1950.0). Two nearby galaxies are host candidates, one more compact and less diffuse than the other; there are many faint, starlike galaxies in this area. The galaxy positions are R.A. = 7h17m11s.15, Decl. = +22 00'01".2; R.A. = 7h17m11s.43, Decl. = +21 59'54".2. IAUC 5147 P/COMET SHOEMAKER-LEVY 2 (1990p) Recent results by S.Larson and D.Levy, University of Arizona show that 1990 UL3 has a tail of 28" in pa 58deg (Dec 19.3UT). It has been redesignated as Comet (1990p). IAUC 5149 1980 WF Rob. H. McNaught, University of Adelaide, reports his recovery of this Amor-type object with the Uppsala Schmidt telescope at Siding Spring (indicated correction to the ephemeris on MPC 17468: Delta(T) = +4.7 days). 1990 UT R.A.
