THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 440 1990 Aug 27 17.15UT Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP, England. Telephone: (0256)471074 Int:+44256471074 Telex: 94082518 Answerback: TAGUY Microlink: MAG60138 JANET:GMH @ UK.AC.CAM.ASTRONOMY.STARLINK or GUYH@UK.AC.SUSSEX.CLUSTER --------------------------------------------------------------------- TAV 1921+24 Mike Collins, Sandy, England reports his discovery of an uncatalogued variable on exposures of 1990 July 14 taken for the UK Nova Patrol. The star is located at: RA 19h21.1m DEC +24 22 (1950) and was recorded at 10.2 on the discovery exposure but earlier shots show it fainter than 11.7. The star = CCS 2728 = Case 452 = BD +24 3730 = AS 356. A paper chart (B) format is available from the Editor. The E-mail version can be transmitted on application to the discoverer. JANET-MICROLINK GATEWAY The present gateway is 'UCL.CS' but although this still works it will shortly be withdrawn. The new gateway is via 'MHS-RELAY'. JANET subscribers using MAIL can contact those on MICROLINK by substituting the recipient's number for MAG60138 in the following example: CBS%MHS-RELAY::"/dd.un=mag60138/%gb.tmailuk.microlink" It is not clear whether those on overseas systems can route messages to MICROLINKERs via this system. Tests to MAG60138 are welcomed! JANET-TELECOM GOLD/DIALCOM GATEWAY Telecom Gold Officials advise us that they plan to introduce a new service between themselves and JANET which will also use the MHS-RELAY system. They anticipate this becoming operational during the next few months. BD -04 5010 (=Q1990/66) Alfredo Pereira reported on Aug 25 that a magnitude 7 star, plotted near Comet Levy (1990c) at 21.55UT is not plotted on the AAVSO Atlas. The Editor finds this is also omitted from the SAO Atlas but is shown on Eclipticalis. It is not in the 1981 version of the TA Atlas Omission List. It is BD -04 5010 at RA 20h02m26s DEC -04 27.6 (1950), mag 7.6v, Sp=F5. Guy M Hurst
